live in newtown, connecticut. a town in mourning to say the least. the images that we have seen throughout this town are heartbreaking. makeshift memorials on several street corners. everything from teddy bears to candles to flowers and angels' wings. it is a beautiful community here. just so quiet and pristine and you call it because what you can hear about newtown, connecticut, and it is so filled with grief. it is only the beginning, though, as this town prepares to bury those who were killed on friday. there will be so many burials. the first of the funerals begins today at 1:00 p.m. these would beautiful children, jack pinto, noah pozner. it is going to be a tragic several weeks. no one knew that more than president obama who came here to speak to this town at a touching memorial last night. >> surely we do better than this. if there is even one step we can take to save another child or another parent or another town from the grief that'ses have e visited tucson, aurora, oak creek and newtown, communities from columbine to blacksburg before that, surely we have an obligatio

. i am ashleigh banfield live in newtown, connecticut. this is the day that the students go back to school after one of the worst school shootings in the history of this country. the school district is sending its children back but the school in question, no. the kids from sandy hook elementary are not going back to class today. they won't be going back to class for a while. they will go back to a school in a neighboring town in monroe. it is being readied for those children and they will return. as others have returned on a two-hour delay today. all of this as this town buries yet another of its dead. a 6-year-old girl, jessica rekos. her family will lay her to rest today. and just so you know a little bit more about that little child. she loved horses. she wanted a cowboy hat and cowboy boots for christmas. her parents spoke with abc news about their little angel. >> she was a ball of fire. she ruled the roost. >> our little ceo we called her. she was the boss. >> reporter: as they remember their child there are so many funerals that have yet to take place in this town, not only f

is pausing to remember the newtown shooting victims. church bells rang out friday exactly one week after the tragedy. flags remained at half staff. many websites even went dark. people all over the country observed a moment of silence for the 20 children and 6 educators. today there is a walk for peace in newtown, and three more children will be laid to rest. ana grace marquez-green, who lost to count and sing. josephine grace gay, who celebrated her 7th birthday. and emilie alice parker. lots of backlash for the nra for their statement friday. gabby and i are extremely disappointed by the nra's defiant suppose. they could have chosen to be a voice for the own members who want common sense, reasonable safeguards on deadly firearms. but instead it chose to defend extreme pro gun positions that aren't even popular among the law-abiding gun owners it represents. the national rifle association is speaking out on the massacre, saying the answer is to deploy armed guards at schools. and they're not the only ones joining the debate. >> columbine. >> virginia tech. >> tucson. >> aurora. >>
